Overview

No two places are the same in Nepal. On one day, you might find yourself marveling at elegant temples, radiant stupas and the next, you could be rubbing shoulders with mischievous monkeys or trying to spot Bengal tigers playing within the foliage. Whatever floats your boat, Nepal has something for you, and this 6-night tour will show you the crème de la crème of this central Himalayan country.

Located in Southern Asia, Nepal is a touristy bubble bursting with spectacular hiking routes and eight of the world’s highest peaks, including Everest. Lush, green mountains and sparkling lakes make for a concoction that’s irresistible to tourists and visitors, who find themselves drawn in by its cultural charm and religious heritage. Temples are ten a penny, and the lifestyle is so unique and rich with flavor and age-old customs that it’s hard not to fall in love with the Nepalese way of life.

Beginning in Kathmandu, Nepal’s capital, your trip will lead you deep into the very heart of Nepali culture. As you mingle with the monkeys at the Monkey Temple, one of the most sacred Buddhist sites, and pay a visit to the Boudha Stupa, one of the largest stupas in the world, you’ll come to understand why this country has such a rich history. You’ll step foot into the Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, the Lord of Animals, and then wander Durbar Square’s palaces and temples, including the Kasthamandap, also known as the “Wooden House.” The square, sprinkled with merchants and devotees during the early hours, is Nepal’s most popular UNESCO World Heritage Site (and rightly so!).

Then, swap the urban vibes of Kathmandu with Pokhara, the second largest city in Nepal and your next stop. As the starting point for many of the treks to the Annapurna Mountain Range, Pokhara is a lively hub of culture vultures and hiking enthusiasts. It is also home to the Phewa Lake, one of Nepal’s most idyllic spots, perfect for rowing across and gazing at the mesmerizing views of the towering peaks and dense forests which surround it.

After Pokhara, your last visit will be Nargarkot. It is a world famous hills station commanding breathtaking views of the majestic Himalayas, Rolling hills, Deep valley, lush pine forest in a quaint rural atmosphere. The panoramic view of the major peaks including Mt. Everest, Ganesh, Langtang, Dorje Lakpa and Gauri Shankar can be seen from here.

AM: Pashupatinath Temple & Bouddhanath Stupa

PM : Patan Durbar Square

Pashupatinath Temple-

Pashupatinath is one of the four most important religious sites in Asia for Shiva devotees. Pashupatinath, dedicated to Shiva the Destroyer, is the holiest Hindu pilgrimage destination in Nepal. Although the Pashupatinath Temple was only built in the fifth century and later renovated by Malla kings, the holy site is said to have existed from the beginning of the millennium.

A gold-plated roof, four silver doors, and wood carvings of the finest quality decorate the pagoda temple of Pashupatinath. Temples dedicated to several other Hindu and Buddhist deities surround the temple of Pashupatinath. Nearby is the temple of Guheshwori dedicated to Shiva's consort Sati Devi. Behind the temple is the River Bagmati. On the banks of Bagmati are raised platforms used as cremation sites for Hindus. Only Hindus are allowed inside the Pashupatinath courtyard.

The temple starts swarming with devotees around 4 am every morning. However the top of the hill to the east of the temple is the ideal place for the non Hindu visitor to view the temple, its rich surroundings, and below on the edge of the Bagmati river the ghats where the dead are brought to be cremated.

Bouddhanath Stupa-

Boudhanath epitomizes Tibetan Buddhism. It lies 8 kms East of Kathmandu and was built by Licchavis King Man Dev in the 5th century A. D. Its colossal and ancient stupa is regarded as one of the world’s biggest stupa and has been built on a stepped octagonal base and inset with alcoves representing Buddha and his teachings. After Chinese invasion in 1959, Tibetans in thousands came to this famous Buddhist Chaitya and energized the stupa. The stupa is surrounded by various temples or 'gompas'. The atmosphere of the whole place lightens up with zest as fragrance of incense drifts through the air. Chanting of monks and creaking of prayer wheels can be heard while strolling around the base. It is one of the prime sites for pilgrims and tourists in the country.

Patan City-

Patan Durbar Square another royal palace complex of the then Malla Kings during 17th century is situated in the center of Patan city. This was taken as the youngest Kingdom. The Square and its surroundings provide very good example of ancient Newari architecture. Patan City is taken as Buddhist city and can be seen many Buddhist shrines, stupas, monasteries etc.The palace has three main courtyards the central and the oldest is Mul Chowk. To the west of the complex are a dozen free standing temples of various sizes and styles. Krishna Temple widely worshipped on Krishna's Birthday, Bhimsen Temple, the Golden Temple of Hiranya Varna Mahavira and Sundari Chowk ( the bathing complex of the then Malla King's ) mark the architectural excellence of its era. The Sundari Chowk with the sunken bath of Tusha Hiti, contains exquisite woodcarvings, stone, and metal sculpture. Patan Durbar Square also houses a temple of Taleju Bhawani. In this complex, there is amazing museum of art where the collection of Hinduism and Buddhism are displayed.
